Raise your hand if you are a mama who is overwhelmed at the thought of creating a baby registry (I am waving both hands)! When my husband and I got to the stage in pregnancy that felt safe to begin considering products for our baby girl, I started doing research and quickly discovered that there is everything under the sun marketed in the baby industry, but you don't truly need all of those things to raise a child.
I decided to create two registries, one at Target for those who like to shop in person, and one on Babylist because you can choose literally any product on the internet. We started at Target scanning things like cute clothes, diapers, bath products, and storage baskets. I love Target and am having withdrawals not being able to walk the aisles during this time in quarantine, but they are limited in their range of products. That's where Babylist comes in, as well as the deer in headlights look when you see just how many stroller, carseat, carrier, and swaddle options are available.
I am linking both our Target and Babylist registries so you can see the items we chose, but I want to encourage you to do your own research too! Read reviews, poll your Instagram followers, talk to friends who have babies. Also, stand by the criteria that is important to you. For me, that was choosing well-made products that we would potentially get a lot of use out of that also had little to no toxicity or harsh chemicals. For example, we personally want to limit plastic products and are more in favor of wood or other natural materials. Keep in mind that something I chose may not be what you need or want, and that's ok! By researching, asking questions, and knowing what you are looking for in an item, you will be well on your way to choosing the best products for you and your baby.
I created a printable registry checklist to help guide you, because I couldn't tell you how many times I returned to my "completed" registries to add forgotten items or take away unnecessary ones. Some may not consider all of these must-have items and others may think more needs to be included, but this will give you a great start in knowing what to include in your baby registry.
